FIERY GINGER FARM: LEARNING, GROWING, THRIVING

Fiery Ginger Farm began in 2015 to transform food access for kindergarten through high school students. While working separately as educators in local schools a decade ago, Hope Sippola and Shayne Zurilgen witnessed a modern food desert — in their school cafeterias. When given a chance to transform a neglected urban green space with close ties to the local community, they jumped at the opportunity and challenge of starting an urban farm in West Sacramento.

The Challenge

Fiery Ginger Farm was started with the intention to provide fresh, healthy produce to local schools for student lunches, and was doing an excellent job serving their customers and generating brand awareness in their communities. In 2021, the team created Spork Food Hub amid the COVID-19 Pandemic as a response to supply chain challenges faced by schools in the Sacramento Region. The Fiery Ginger Farm website became the de facto landing page for the Spork Food Hub and didn’t reflect current business activities, with offerings and educational programs.

The solution

Atelier JKL took on the challenge of redesigning the Fiery Ginger Farm website, creating a vibrant visual identity complete with a dynamic color palette, engaging icons, and sense of place: the heart of the city, West Sacramento.

We delved into the content to narrate Hope and Shayne’s inspiring journey, their core values, and their vision for the farm — to provide Sacramento County’s youth and families an enriching hands-on learning experience. Our goal was to highlight their commitment to educating the next generation about the origins of their food and the joy of eating delicious, healthy meals.

After months of dedicated effort and boundless creativity on the two connected agri-businesses Fiery Ginger Farm and Spork Food Hub, we are thrilled to unveil sister brands and websites that not only showcase the farming team’s remarkable work but also encapsulate their essence and future ambitions.

This collaboration brought things into sharp focus, giving Hope and Shayne a renewed sense of clarity and purpose in their diverse offerings and the ability to own their online presence in the seasons to come.
